I chose to “trash” olive green shag carpet, plastic flowers from a wall mounted arrangement, dizzying floral wallpaper, patterned wall-to-wall carpet and linoleum that is pretending to be hand painted Italian tile. The 1960’s home renovation that covers the house my husband and I recently purchased, sealed the essence of our house in plastic. Underneath all that 60’s “style” there is evidence of careful craft, material sensitivity and honest work. Unfortunately, as we slowly reveal the original essence of the home we are generating truckloads of trash that will be hauled “away”. I wonder if revealing the real craft hidden in this home worth the waste the process is generating?
