Milans Garbage – Treasures
Thinking about garbage immediatly made me think about Milan.
My 7 year old son, who always has every pocket of his jeans and jacket filled with, in my opinion, garbage.
In his opinion they are treasures that he finds in the streets of Amsterdam and that he collects because of their colour, shine, technical appearance or other values.
So part of my daily life is to empty these pockets.
If I don’t do this on a regular base I know from experience the washing machine will break down and he’ll be carrying an immense load of weight around in his jacket.
But ofcourse I can’t just throw away his “garbage-treasures” so I always save them up for a while and slowly, bit by bit, it disappears.
But never the most precious ones.
Those he keeps in his personal cabin with all the little drawers.
So logically I decided to do this project with him and he loved it.
He put in his favorites of the day: a little flowerbulb which he found in the bushes, an image of his favorite Dj Nicky, a piece of bone, a stone, piece of a necklace (real gold he assured me), he made for one bag a little sculpture with plastic, tape and yellow wire and at the end he even put in his “smurf” , the little blue man, Hollands latest hype.
Actually no garbage but a real collectors item, but to him just as valuable as the rest.
